I Hate Politics #2: A Word About Newt Gingrich

(I first write this back in 2012. It's interesting to go back and read things I wrote in the past.)

Maybe it's a sign of the times that someone like Newt Gingrich is even being considered for the position of President of the United States of America. Here is a man whose life and career are examples of the kind of ethical and moral rot individuals are raised from birth to avoid if they want to claim the label "decent people."

The mob (and I use that word deliberately) that cheered for Gingrich in South Carolina and is now lining up to support him against Mitt Romney has at one time or another clapped their hands for Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Herman Cain, and Rick Perry, pretty much anyone who's willing to serve as their main-stage avatar and give the finger to Liberals, The Media, The Gays, The Feeloading Poor, and any other group that needs to be despised in their sad worldview.

Maybe it just shows how un-serious this segment of the electorate is on the task of picking this country's leader. Maybe they know that there aren't enough bigots left in this country to unseat Obama, so why not pick the biggest mouth around to say stupid things loudly? Maybe the hate faction of the GOP is in the process of distilling into a 21st Century American Fascist party. Maybe people just want a good show now that football season is almost over. Maybe it's a little of all of that. One things for sure, Newt and his followers deserve each other. I just hope they're not so delusional as to think this guy will ever be President.
