Take Five (Vol. 5): Don’t Forget to Pray, and Shake a Hand Every Day

Here’s my CHIRP Radio show set list from Sunday, October 5th. Here’s what I played [Artist, “Song” from Album (Label)]…

Aphex Twin, "We Are the Music Makers" from Selected Ambient Works 85-92 (Apollo)

Ryan Adams, "Trouble" from Ryan Adams (Columbia)

Merchandise, "Enemy" from After the End (4AD)

The Exterminators, "Voo-Doo" from The Quill Records Story (Collectables)
This is a cool anthology of singles from the long-defunct Chicago label Quill Records. They had a bunch of garage bands record in better studio conditions than they're used to, but they kept the raw energy usually associated with lo-fi garage bands.

Pere Ubu, "Bus Station" from Carnival of Souls (Fire)

Brownout, "The Wizard" from Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath (Ubiquity)

Purling Hiss, "Forcefield of Solitude" from Weirdon (Drag City)

Melkbelly, "Theme from Blarr III" from Pennsylvania (Automatic)
A new Chicago band I like a lot.

Code Orange, "I Am King" from I Am King (Deathwish Inc.)

Disclosure, "Latch (featuring Sam Smith)" from Settle (PMR)

Kasai Allstars, "Yangye, the Evil Leopard" from Beware the Fetish (Crammed Discs)

Hark, "Sins on Sleeves" from Crystalline (Season of Mist)
Some satisfying Stoner Metal from the new band fronted by the former lead singer of Taint.

Jesse Lanza, "5785021" from Hyperdub 10.2 (Hyperdub)

O'Death, "Wrong Time" from Out of Hands We Go (Northern Spy)

Anthony D'Amato, "If It Don't Work Out" from The Shipwreck from the Shore (New West)

Music Blues, "Premature Caesarean Removal Delivery" from Things Haven't Gone Well (Thrill
Jockey)
This guy's depressed. Even if you didn't see the album title, you can hear it in the Noise Rock.

Faye Adams, "Shake a Hand" (Herald)
A fantastic Gospel/Pop song that topped the charts in 1953.

Santah, "Won't Be Long Now" from Awwh Man (Hapsound)

BPos, "I Used To" from Positive Beings (self-released)
A very good Rap outfit based out of San Francisco

Matchess, "Utterly Delightful Cry of Outrage" from Seraphastra (Trouble in Mind)

Shellac, "Compliant" from Dude Incredible (Touch and Go)

Groove Theory, "Tell Me" from Groove Theory

Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers with Thelonious Monk, "I Mean You" from Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers with Thelonious Monk (Atlantic)

I'll be back on the air this Sunday, October 12th, from 2-4 pm Central.
