Repeater: Morrissey

Over at Slate.com, Stephen Metcalf has written an excellent article about ex-Smiths frontman and 80s-90s alternative music icon Morrissey.

Morrissey is in that category of artists (like Björk and Tom Waits) for whom there isn't much fence-sitting among music lovers. Those who like one of these artists tend to be really, really into them, often to the point that the artist informs a fundamental part of the fan's musical existence. Those that don't like the artist will often make a "I just smelled bad cheese" face when asked to express their feelings about the music.

Count me in the former category with Morrissey, more from his work with the Smiths than as a solo act, although Bona Drag and Your Arsenal are both very good albums.
