Music Notes: My Radio Show Set List from 8/25/13

Here’s a list of what I played for my set on August 25th:

Mother of Tears, “Little Ratty” from HoZac Hookup Klub: Round One (HoZac)
The Modern Lovers, “Old World” from The Modern Lovers (Beserkley)
Martha and the Muffins, “Echo Beach” from Metro Music (DinDisc)
Prodigy & The Alchemist, Death Sentence (featuring Roc Marciano) from Albert Einstein (Infamous)
Blind Melon, “Three Is a Magic Number” from School House Rock! Rocks (Atlantic/Hollywood) - This album is an excellent one-off of '90s Alternative bands doing covers of the Saturday morning TV School House Rock songs. Moby, Daniel Johnson, Biz Marke, and Pavement also contribute tracks.
De La Soul, “The Magic Number” from 3 Feet High and Rising (Tommy Boy/Warner Bros.)
Grumbling Fur, “Protogenisis” from Glynnaestra (Thrill Jockey)
Axis:sovA, “(I Feel Like) Laying Low” (Richie Records)
Benzos, “Glass Souls” from Morning Stanzas (Stinky)
T. Hardy Morris, “Lucky” from Audition Tapes (Dangerbird)
Daniel Wohl, “Neighborhood” from Corps Exquis (New Amsterdam)
Soul for Real, “Every Little Thing I Do” from Candy Rain (Uptown/MCA) - Some mid-'90s New Jack RnB
Lord Dying, “Dreams of Mercy” from Summon the Faithless (Relapse) - Do not listen to a Relapse release if you are not looking to get rocked hard
Kate Bush, “Love and Anger” from The Sensual World (Columbia)
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, “Funny Games” from Specter at the Feast (Vagrant)
Zola Jesus, “I Can't Stand” from Stridulum II (Soulterrain Transmissions)
Warm Ones, “Handler” from Lena [EP] (Self-Released)
Surf City, “Song from a Short Lived TV Series” from We Knew It Was Not Going to Be Like This (Fire)
The Staple Singers, “Samson and Delilah” from Freedom Highway (Epic)
The Mamas & The Papas, “Creeque Alley” from Deliver (Dunhill)
Judson Claiborne, “Criminal Makeup” from We Have Not Doors You Need Not Keys (La Societe Expeditionnaire)
POP ETC, “Dreams” from Bedroom Covers [EP] (Self-Released) - This band used to go by another name, but changed it out of concerns that it offended certain demographic groups. A very nice gesture on their part, IMO.
Tame Impala, “Why Won't They Talk to Me?” from Lonerism (Modular Recordings)
Factor, “Don't Give Up” (Feat. Paranoid Castle & Jeans Boots) from Woke Up Alone (Fake Four Inc.)
PONY BWOY, “Crystal Ball” (radio edit) from PONY BWOY (Totally Gross National Product)
Helado Negro, “Ilumina Vos” from Invisible Life (Asthmatic Kitty)
Rosetta, “Hoduku / Compassion” from The Anaesthete (Self-Released)

I’ll be back in the studio on Sunday Sept. 1 from 2-4 pm CST with more music. Tune in then, and pretty much any time on CHIRP Radio for great music!
